In Fargo, North Dakota, business people are using guided meditation to balance careers and personal lives, handle problems on the job, and create calmer, more productive workplaces. Fargo On Purpose is a meditation group designed for business leaders and entrepreneurs. Group leader Andrea Paradis says that this monthly guided meditation for business professionals offers participants balance and clarity. “No matter if you own your own business or work for one, there are ups and downs. Everyone hates their job and loves their job at some point in their life. What [meditation] will help you do is take those ebbs and flows in stride,” she says. Paradis also encourages a sense of gratitude in her classes. Gratitude, she says, is very important, but very rare in the business world, “if you lift others up, they’ll lift you up.”
Members of the group report that they feel less irritation, anger, and jealousy since using guided meditation. “Only you can make yourself happy or unhappy,” says Paradis, and the capacity for happiness can be accessed at any time. The Fargo On Purpose group is working to make the business community stronger and more resilient. They meet on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 a.m. The next meeting will be June 1st.
